James Kumbeni, a dedicated cyclist and member of the Keekee Cycling Konnect in Bolgatanga, has embarked on an ambitious 815-kilometer ride from Bolgatanga to Accra. His journey, which commenced on Monday, April 8, aims to raise awareness about the importance of green transportation and cyclists’ safety.
Dubbed the “Ride for Clean Air and Safe Cycling,” Kumbeni’s initiative supports Atinga Nsobila Joel’s Guinness World Record attempt for the longest barbecue marathon in Accra. Sponsored by various entities including AquaBolg, Happy Man Bitters, Eye of God Pharmacy, and A1 Radio, Kumbeni’s journey is a testament to the power of grassroots advocacy and community engagement.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Kumbeni emphasized the significance of promoting bicycles as alternative modes of transport and advocating for policies that enhance cycling accessibility and convenience. He highlighted the adverse health and environmental effects of vehicle emissions, stressing the need for emission-free transportation options like cycling, walking, and public transit to reduce carbon footprints.
Moreover, Kumbeni’s campaign underscores the importance of government and businesses investing in infrastructure that prioritizes sustainable mobility, such as protected bike lanes and cycle tracks.
