Ghanaian Activist Abubakar Tahiru Sets Guinness World Records by Hugging Over 1,100 Trees in One Hour

Abubakar Tahiru, a 29-year-old environmental activist and forestry student from Ghana, has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new world record for the most trees hugged in one hour.

During his record attempt at Tuskegee National Forest in Alabama, USA, Abubakar embraced a total of 1,123 trees, averaging nearly 19 hugs per minute. His passion for nature and conservation, nurtured since childhood in the farming community of Tepa, Ghana, propelled him to undertake this extraordinary challenge.

Having completed his undergraduate degree in forestry in Ghana, Abubakar moved to Alabama last year to pursue a master’s degree in forestry at Auburn University. His dedication to environmental preservation and sustainability led him to embark on this ambitious endeavor, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of trees in our ecosystem.

For Abubakar, the record attempt presented both physical and logistical challenges. Moving swiftly between trees while ensuring each hug met the required standards proved to be demanding, particularly without the ability to consume water due to fasting for Ramadan.

Despite these obstacles, Abubakar’s determination and unwavering commitment propelled him to success, surpassing the minimum requirement of 700 hugs and securing his place in the record books. Reflecting on his achievement, Abubakar expressed gratitude for the opportunity to highlight the vital role of trees in environmental conservation.

With this world record under his belt, Abubakar plans to further his involvement in forestry by championing sustainable practices and collaborating with environmental organizations on impactful projects. His ultimate goal is to inspire youth in Ghana, especially those from underserved communities, to pursue their passions and effect positive change in the world.

Abubakar’s remarkable feat serves as a powerful reminder of the profound impact that individuals can have on environmental preservation and the collective efforts needed to safeguard our planet for future generations.
