Coalition of Concerned Teachers President Highlights Salary Struggles and Political Influence in Ghana's Education Sector

Amidst growing concerns over the welfare of teachers in Ghana, the President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), Ali Awudu, sheds light on the challenges faced by educators, particularly regarding their salaries and the politicization of the education sector.

In a forthcoming interview with TV3’s Keminni Amanor, Awudu reveals that despite his 19 years of service and possession of a second degree, his monthly salary stands at GHS4,066. This revelation underscores the financial struggles experienced by many teachers in the country.

Awudu further expresses dismay over the pervasive political interference in the education sector, stating that no other sector in Ghana faces as much political manipulation as education. He emphasizes the need to end this practice to ensure the sector’s stability and effectiveness.

The CCT President also highlights the fear among headteachers to voice out their frustrations due to the risk of dismissal, illustrating the challenges faced by educational leaders in advocating for change.

Despite these challenges, Awudu commends the high quality of teachers produced in Ghana, reaffirming their dedication and professionalism in the face of adversity.
