After five years under the Highly Spiritual Music label, Ghanaian artist Mr Drew has officially left the record label. The departure was confirmed by the label’s CEO, Kaywa, who shed light on the circumstances surrounding the separation.
In an interview with Hitz FM, Kaywa disclosed that Mr Drew’s contract had expired last year, making him an independent artiste. However, the label had initially expressed interest in continuing their collaboration with Mr Drew. Kaywa stated, “We thought we still had the strength to work with him, but he said he wanted to look in a different direction, so we allowed him to go.”
Mr Drew, known for his energetic performances and dancing abilities, had recently revealed in an interview with Ameyaw TV’s Zeinat that he was no longer associated with Highly Spiritual Music. With his contract coming to an end, he expressed his status as an independent artist.
The departure of Mr Drew also coincided with the exit of Lasmid, the then youngest artist on the label and winner of the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards New Artiste Of The Year award. The simultaneous departures of these two talents have brought changes to the dynamics of Highly Spiritual Music.
However, the label CEO wasted no time in filling the void left by the departing artists. Kaywa has signed four new talents to the label, adding fresh perspectives and musical styles to the roster. The newly signed artists include Shuga Lord, Joe Vibe, Joy Verse, and Cadeen. Each artist brings their unique flair to the table, promising to contribute to the evolution of the Ghanaian music scene.
The separation between Mr Drew and Highly Spiritual Music marks a significant turning point in their professional relationship. As Mr Drew explores new directions in his music career, the label continues to foster the growth of emerging talents. Fans of both Mr Drew and the Highly Spiritual Music label will be eagerly anticipating the next chapters in their respective journeys.
