Kelvyn Boy Claims SDA Doctrines and Training Stifle Creativity

Ghanaian Afrobeats sensation, Kelvyn Boy, has expressed his belief that the teachings and practices of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church limit the creative potential of its members. Speaking on the ‘Onua Showtime’ with Nana Ama McBrown, Kelvyn Boy, who grew up in an SDA household, recalled his experiences attending church with his musically talented father.

According to Kelvyn Boy, the SDA Church imposes numerous rules and principles that hinder individuals’ ability to think freely and act outside the established norms. He suggests that the strict doctrines and regulations imposed by the church have the unintended consequence of suppressing talents and stifling creativity.

“Our SDA doctrines and training have tamed a lot of talents; the rules of the church are too many. If you deviate from the expected path, you are seen as contaminated,” Kelvyn Boy explained. He believes that such restrictions should instead serve as opportunities for personal growth and resilience.

However, Kelvyn Boy also acknowledges that the training he received from his father and the SDA Church had a positive impact on his musical abilities, particularly in live band performances and singing. He fondly recalls being given the opportunity to showcase his talent at a young age, a moment that left a lasting impression on him.

While Kelvyn Boy acknowledges the value of his upbringing within the SDA Church, he raises important concerns about the potential limitations imposed by its teachings. The discussion surrounding the balance between religious beliefs and personal creativity is a topic of ongoing debate within many religious communities.

As Kelvyn Boy continues to make his mark in the music industry, his remarks shed light on the challenges faced by artists who navigate the intersection of their creative pursuits and religious affiliations. The conversation sparked by his statements encourages a broader exploration of how religious institutions can support and nurture individual talents while fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth.
