Take ‘Taste Of Ghana’ To Other Regions – Alaptawan

Ghanaian artiste Alapta Wan is championing a call for the government to extend the annual ‘Taste of Ghana’ event beyond the borders of Greater Accra, advocating for its rotation across various regions of the country.

‘Taste of Ghana’, a government-sponsored event organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), celebrates the rich diversity of Ghanaian cuisine, music, and arts. With four successful editions under its belt, the event showcases a vibrant array of Ghanaian foods, beverages, fashion, and cultural artifacts, alongside activities such as cooking competitions, fashion shows, concerts, and art exhibitions.

Featured artists at ‘Taste of Ghana’ have included some of Ghana’s biggest names in music, including Shatta Wale, R2Bees, EL, Fancy Gadam, Adina, and many more. Alapta Wan, herself a performer at the event, stressed the importance of extending such cultural celebrations beyond the confines of the capital city, Accra.

In a recent interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Alapta Wan emphasized the need for inclusivity in cultural events, suggesting that the rotation of ‘Taste of Ghana’ to different regions would foster greater cultural exchange and appreciation across the country. She highlighted the challenges faced by artists outside of Accra, including limited resources and opportunities, and emphasized the importance of visibility and exposure for artists in all regions.

Despite these challenges, Alapta Wan remains a formidable force in the Ghanaian music scene, with her reggae and dancehall-inspired tracks resonating with audiences nationwide. Her annual concert, BoombaFest, held in Navrongo, further underscores her commitment to promoting culture and music beyond Accra’s borders.

With her advocacy for nationwide expansion of cultural events like ‘Taste of Ghana’, Alapta Wan aims to create opportunities for artists across Ghana to showcase their talent and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the country. As discussions continue, her voice adds weight to the call for inclusivity and diversity in Ghana’s cultural landscape.
