Patapaa Claims VGMA is Cursed Because His Deserved Award Was Stolen For Fancy Gadam

In a recent interview, Swedru-based singer Justice Amoa, popularly known as Patapaa, expressed his belief that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) has been cursed by God due to their denial of the award he deserved in 2018. The singer’s hit song ‘One Corner’ had garnered a nomination for “The Most Popular Song of the Year” category, competing against prominent artists like Ebony, KiDi, Kwami Eugene, Fancy Gadam, Joe Mettle, and Captain Planet.

Patapaa and his team believed ‘One Corner’ was the clear winner due to its immense popularity. However, the award was given to Fancy Gadam’s ‘Total Cheat,’ featuring Sarkodie, leaving Patapaa and his fans disappointed and feeling cheated. Patapaa publicly expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that awards should be given based on merit rather than any questionable influences.

Since then, Patapaa has remained firm in his conviction that VGMA’s decision was unjust, and now, in his recent interview with Andy Dosty on Hits 103.9 FM, he claims that God has placed a curse on the organizers for giving the award to an undeserving artist.

The singer highlighted previous controversies surrounding VGMA’s decisions, including Amakye Dede and Kuami Eugene’s incident, where Amakye Dede confessed that he was forced by the VGMA board to crown Kuami Eugene as the king of Highlife, even though he was not ready to do so.

“They (VGMA board) have to stop those things they’ve been doing. If someone deserves an award, you have to give it to him based on his output. They don’t have to take any stupid money to give an award to an undeserving artiste”.

“I can see that God has placed a curse on the organizers of VGMA because of what they did to me. I don’t want to go far. If I want to go far, then I will say this, when we say curse, it means you are being punished for causing pain to someone. I don’t want to say it

“I would want to use Amakye Dede’s issue as an example but I don’t want to say it. They forced Amakye Dede to crown someone when he was not ready to do that”, he explained.
