I Leave My Former Artistes To God – Highly Spiritual Music CEO, Kaywa
Kaywa, the acclaimed music producer, sound engineer, and CEO of Highly Spiritual record label, has opened up about the heartache of investing in artists only to see them abandon him. Despite the significant contributions he made to their careers, these artists decided to part ways just as they were gaining popularity and commercial success. In the face of such losses, Kaywa has chosen to leave them in the hands of God, finding solace in the belief that he has played a pivotal role in shaping their paths to stardom.
Throughout his career, Kaywa has nurtured and mentored several artists under the Highly Spiritual record label, including Kurl Songx, Yaw Berk, Krymi, Keche, and others. However, recent departures by musicians Lasmid and Mr Drew have left the producer with a sense of disappointment. It is a familiar tale for record labels, who invest their time, money, and energy into developing emerging talents, only to witness them seek new opportunities elsewhere, often with larger and more financially rewarding labels.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Kaywa shared his perspective on this recurring pattern. Rather than harboring bitterness or speaking ill of his former artists, he chooses to entrust their futures to God. He acknowledges the pain that comes with investing in artists who leave when they reach their peak, but he firmly believes that the impact he made in their careers is a source of joy. Kaywa takes pride in being a catalyst for their success, even if they go on to achieve the levels of fame attained by artists like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy.
Kaywa also expressed his frustration with the practice of poaching, where individuals or rival record labels lure artists away with enticing offers. He called for a more ethical approach, urging poachers to work collaboratively with the original record labels instead of resorting to underhanded tactics.
Regarding the possibility of working with his former artists again, Kaywa made it clear that at Highly Spiritual, once an artist departs, there is no going back. While maintaining amicable relationships is possible, rejoining the label is not an option. This policy underscores the challenges faced by record labels when it comes to retaining talent.
Despite the setbacks and heartaches, Kaywa remains dedicated to his craft and committed to nurturing new talent. His focus is on making a lasting impact on the music industry, continuing to sign promising artists, and shaping them into national assets. Kaywa’s journey serves as a testament of faith, resilience, and the enduring belief that investing in artists, even when they eventually move on, is an essential contribution to the growth and development of the music industry.
