Former Label Boss Kaywa Blames Lasmid’s Abysmal VGMA Performance on Departure from Highly Spiritual

In a recent interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Kaywa, the former label boss of Lasmid, expressed his disappointment with the artist’s performance at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). According to Kaywa, the stagecraft would have been significantly better if they were still working together under Highly Spiritual Music.

Kaywa revealed that Lasmid left the label with the assistance of his lawyer based in Nigeria. Although the artist’s departure was not welcomed by Kaywa, he made it clear that working with Lasmid again would be impossible if he decided to return to the label.

The former label boss disclosed that there was no official contract between him and Lasmid after the artist won MTN Hitmaker Season 8 in 2019. Kaywa had invested considerable time and effort into developing Lasmid’s career, and their collaboration had seen success with hits like “Friday Night” and “Running.” However, following the release of “Running,” Lasmid decided to part ways with the label, citing a change in their initial conversation and agreement, possibly influenced by others in their circle.

Kaywa, undeterred by the departure, has moved forward and signed four new artists to Highly Spiritual Music. The newly signed artists include Cadeen, Joe Vibe, Shuga Lord, and Joe Verse.

While Kaywa expressed his disappointment with Lasmid’s VGMA performance, he clarified that he did not harbor any ill feelings toward the artist. However, it remains uncertain if Lasmid’s career trajectory will be affected by his decision to leave Highly Spiritual Music, as the label continues to focus on nurturing new talent.
