National Service Scheme Secures Government Approval for Increased Allowances
In a recent press release, the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the Republic of Ghana announced a significant milestone in securing government approval for an upward adjustment of monthly allowances for National Service Personnel. The approval comes as welcome news for thousands of service personnel who will now benefit from a substantial increase in their allowances, effective from January 2023.
Under the new approval, the monthly allowance for National Service Personnel has been raised from GH¢559.04 to GHE715.57. This noteworthy enhancement was made possible through a series of diligent engagements between the National Service Scheme, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance.
The breakthrough approval was conveyed in a letter dated 18th July 2023, personally signed by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare (MP). The communication also mandated the Controller and Accountant-General to implement the new allowance levels without delay, ensuring that service personnel receive their rightful entitlements promptly.
With the new allowance rates taking effect from January 2023, all National Service Personnel actively serving during that period are eligible for arrears corresponding to the difference between the previous and the updated allowances. The NSS Management acknowledges this and assures all service personnel that the necessary administrative processes are being diligently carried out to facilitate the disbursement of the arrears.
This development reflects the government’s commitment to recognizing the valuable contributions of National Service Personnel and ensuring that their welfare is prioritized. The increase in allowances not only recognizes the dedication and hard work of these young individuals in service to the nation but also helps to ease their financial burdens during the period of their national service.
