Asamoah Gyan: Ghana Determined to Qualify for 2026 World Cup Despite Tricky Draw
Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, despite being drawn into a challenging group. The draw, which took place on Thursday afternoon, placed Ghana alongside Mali, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros, and Chad in Group I.
Gyan, who was among the African football legends conducting the draw in Ivory Coast, acknowledged the difficulty of their group but remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances. Despite the team’s recent dip in form and disappointing performances, the 37-year-old believes they have what it takes to navigate through the qualifiers.
Since Ghana’s debut World Cup appearance in 2006, they have become accustomed to the tournament. Gyan, the all-time leading scorer for the Black Stars with 51 goals in 109 appearances, emphasized the team’s determination to secure their fifth qualification.

Ghana’s recent World Cup campaigns have ended in disappointment, with group stage exits in both the 2014 and 2022 editions. However, the team aims to improve upon their past performances and make a stronger showing in the upcoming tournament.
In the qualification process, the winners of each of the nine groups will secure automatic berths in the World Cup. Additionally, the four best runners-up from the groups will compete in a mini-playoff competition. The ultimate winner of the tournament will progress to an intercontinental playoff, potentially becoming the tenth African team to secure a spot in the competition.
Ghana, the only team in their group to have previously qualified for the World Cup, is determined to overcome the challenges and make their mark on the global stage once again. With Asamoah Gyan’s experience and the team’s collective effort, Ghana is ready to face the arduous journey ahead and strive for qualification in the 2026 World Cup.
