Where is Our Ghana Music Pride Outside Ghan? – Harun Stone Writes |OneMuzikGh

As we head to VGMAs tonight to celebrate our musicians and music excellence is Ghana, various musicians fans are rooting for their favorite artist to win various awards.
But my question is, where does our GH music lies in the world stage of music?
#BET just came out with nominations and GH is no where to found, yet our musicians are always on each other’s neck for local or national glory.

We have very talented and good musicians in Ghana (Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Samini, EL, Edem, Guru, VVIP, R2Bs etc) yet they put so much attention on Local competition than global or African competition, we don’t MAMAs , the Channel Os , The AFRIMAS, the CORAs and the likes, Ghanaians are always missing in these awards after a feature in a previous one. Yet have equal good and talented musicians like those who have been dominating these awards .
We have few musicians doing well internationally but they seems to always be lacking behind when it comes to competing with their colleagues in other African countries. “We can’t compete with Nigerians” they always say, now South Africans has also taken steps ahead of us and all we can say is that “they are rapping in English or hip hop” but where is EL and Co? How much attention have we given to them? Everyone in GH is always mocking one of our biggest Music export in Ghana (D blak) yet he has extended his brand across Africa and beyond. Now his career is a subject of ridicule yet our heroes are yet to do what he has done in his career.

So in Conclusion, I think we need to re strategies for the global market and push our mainstream artist out there. In short I believe in one thing when it is international competition, it GH or GH music but when it is Ghana i can make all the arguments for or against any artist. Too much local rivalry will kill our music industry because it is dividing the fans among artist.
