Unemployed Trained Teachers Petition Education Minister Over Delayed Postings, Seek Immediate Financial Clearance and Recruitment

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT), made up of 2023 graduates from the 46 accredited public Colleges of Education across Ghana, has formally petitioned the Ministry of Education, calling for urgent steps to be taken to grant financial clearance and open the GES recruitment portal for their employment.
In a letter addressed to the Honourable Minister of Education and dated 15th May 2025, the group congratulated the Minister on his appointment and expressed optimism that his leadership will mark a turning point in addressing long-standing concerns affecting qualified but unemployed trained teachers.
A copy of the letter, available to us, outlines the frustration and uncertainty thousands of certified teachers are grappling with despite completing all required processes. These include a rigorous four-year academic training, successful completion of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), one-year mandatory national service in 2024 (which ended in February 2025), and acquisition of provisional teaching licenses—set to expire by 2026.
The group emphasized the emotional, social, and financial toll the delayed postings have placed on members and their families. CUTT is demanding transparency and clear communication regarding the recruitment timeline and deployment process. Specifically, they are seeking answers to:
When financial clearance will be granted,
When postings will commence, and
Any other steps required for recruitment.
The letter strongly appeals for public communication from the Ministry to help manage expectations and bring relief to affected individuals. It closes with a hopeful tone, trusting that the Minister’s leadership will prioritize qualified teachers and ensure they are posted where their services are critically needed.
As of now, the Ministry of Education has yet to issue a formal response. Stakeholders in the education sector and the general public are closely watching how the Ministry addresses this pressing issue affecting Ghana’s pool of trained educators.
