Davido Vows Legal Action Over False ‘Drug Arrest’ Story Circulated for April Fools’
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has firmly asserted his intent to pursue legal recourse against a media house responsible for spreading a fabricated story alleging his arrest on drug charges as an April Fools’ Day prank.
The artist, renowned for his chart-topping hits and global acclaim, expressed vehement disapproval of the spurious narrative, which falsely claimed his involvement in a drug-related incident at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
In response to the misleading article initially disseminated by a Kenyan news outlet, Davido took to social media to denounce the falsehood, assuring his fans of its utter fabrication. The Grammy-nominated musician stressed that he had concluded performances in Uganda and Kenya without any legal entanglements before returning to Nigeria.
The misleading story, which included invented claims about Davido’s alleged drug smuggling, was swiftly discredited by Kenya’s law enforcement as “fake news.” Despite attempts to label it as an April Fools’ Day prank, Davido emphasized the seriousness of the matter, asserting that legal action would be pursued against those responsible for its dissemination.

The false narrative not only targeted Davido but also impugned the reputations of other celebrities allegedly involved in drug use at the festival where Davido had performed. While the news outlet appended a disclaimer acknowledging the fictitious nature of the article, Davido remains resolute in his pursuit of accountability.
