Curfew Hours in Bawku Municipality, Bimbilla, and Kpatinga Renewed

In response to ongoing security concerns, the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has renewed the curfew hours in Bawku Municipality, Bimbilla, and Kpatinga. The decision comes on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council, as these areas have been facing persistent challenges related to violence and unrest.

A statement by the ministry reads, “Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Bimbilla Township and surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, and any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,”

Effective from Friday, June 16, 2023, the new curfew hours will be enforced from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 am. Additionally, there is a strict ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in the Bimbilla Township and surrounding areas. Any individual found violating this ban will be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.

While acknowledging the difficulties faced by the residents, Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, and Youth in these areas, the statement from the Ministry urges them to exercise restraint and employ non-violent means to address the challenges they are facing. The emphasis is on promoting peace and stability in the region, encouraging the community to work together towards achieving a harmonious environment.

The renewal of the curfew hours and the ban on weapons reflect the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the residents in these areas. It is hoped that these measures will contribute to the restoration of peace and the prevention of further conflicts.

By working collaboratively with local communities, engaging in dialogue, and promoting non-violent solutions, it is possible to address the underlying issues and establish a lasting peace. The authorities, along with the residents and community leaders, must continue their efforts to foster understanding, tolerance, and cooperation among all stakeholders.

It is essential for the affected communities to prioritize peaceful coexistence and embrace conflict resolution mechanisms that promote unity and reconciliation. By doing so, they can pave the way for a brighter future, where the well-being and prosperity of all residents are safeguarded.

While the imposition of curfew hours and the ban on weapons may present temporary inconveniences, they are necessary steps towards creating an environment of stability and security. The hope is that these measures will contribute to the long-term peacebuilding process in the Bawku Municipality, Bimbilla, and Kpatinga, fostering a sense of trust and promoting social cohesion among the residents.
