Blakk Rasta Expresses Frustration Over Ghanaian Artists’ Denial of His Collaboration Requests

Renowned Ghanaian Reggae artist and radio personality, Abubakar Ahmed, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, recently opened up about his ongoing struggles in securing collaborations with fellow Ghanaian musicians. The artist lamented the lack of support and trust among artists in the Ghanaian music industry.

Blakk Rasta expressed his disappointment, stating, “I think a lot of it is just selfishness. We don’t trust each other. It is a very sad thing that each one is for himself, and nobody is actually helping anybody. And you know the quality of songs I produce. Recently, I was trying to get one or two artists to collaborate with me, and you will be surprised by what some of them said.”

According to the radio personality, his attempts to collaborate with other artists often go unanswered. Despite initial enthusiasm from the potential collaborators, they fail to follow through. Blakk Rasta shared his frustration, saying, “They will say, ‘Oh legend, send me the song. It’s a vibe; the song is a real vibe,’ and then I don’t hear from them again.”

Blakk Rasta acknowledged that he has never been one to actively seek collaborations, but he emphasized the importance of artists supporting and uplifting one another. He believes that some artists overestimate their own value and underestimate the potential impact of collaboration. He highlighted the damaging effects of ego in the industry, stating, “Where there is ego, people cannot come together. Until we drop that ego, nothing is going to work.”

In light of his experiences, Blakk Rasta urged his fellow musicians to stop underestimating their counterparts and to embrace collaboration as a means of collective growth. He stressed the need for trust, support, and a willingness to set aside personal agendas for the betterment of the industry as a whole.

The Ghanaian music industry thrives on the talent and creativity of its artists, but collaborations have the potential to elevate the industry to new heights. Blakk Rasta’s candid revelations shed light on the existing challenges and encourage a shift in mindset among Ghanaian artists. By fostering a collaborative spirit and breaking down barriers, artists can collectively contribute to the advancement and success of Ghanaian music on the global stage.
