Doing Music In Ghana Is A ‘Thankless Job’ – M3nsa bemoans

Ghanaian musician and filmmaker Mensa Ansah, popularly known as M3NSA, has voiced his frustration over the lack of appreciation and support for artists within the Ghanaian music industry. In a revealing interview on 3FM Drive on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, M3NSA described the industry as a “thankless job.”

M3NSA lamented the inconsistent support from Ghanaians, noting how quickly their enthusiasm can wane. He recounted his own difficulties in crowdfunding his BONDZIE album, sharing that even his family members were reluctant to back his efforts.

“It’s a thankless job in a sense, of course it is,” he said. “Even some family members were actually making me sell the idea to them. I don’t need to sell the idea to you; you know what I do. But we took up the challenge, and some people came through, making up for all the pushbacks and struggles.”

The artist also criticized the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) for their lack of timely support. He explained that when he sought funding for a project, MUSIGA only responded after the project had already been completed, rendering their assistance moot.

“We went there for funding, and they told us to write a letter. After we went through the process, we got a response only after the film had been launched,” M3NSA recounted.
