World Red Cross Day

The Upper West Region Red Cross Society marked World Red Cross Day with a series of engaging and impactful activities that left a lasting impression on the community. The celebration kicked off on the 8th of May 2024 with a heartfelt outreach to a local Basic School and a heartwarming visit to the Wa Municipal Hospital Kids ward. Volunteers from the Ghana Red Cross Society dedicated their time to visit a Junior High School in Wa Municipal; Fongo M/A JHS where they conducted interactive sessions on humanitarian values and imparted essential first aid knowledge to the students. The volunteers enlightened the students on disaster preparedness, crisis management, and pandemic response strategies, equipping them with valuable life-saving skills.

Following the educational sessions, the volunteers extended their compassion to the children battling illnesses at the hospital, spreading joy and distributing gifts to brighten their spirits. The shared moments of smiles, laughter, and warmth served as a beacon of hope for these resilient children, reassuring them that they are surrounded by support and care on their journey to recovery.

The celebration continued on the 11th of May 2024 with a rejuvenating health walk in the morning and an exhilarating football match in the evening against the Ghana Scout team at Jujeireyiri Park. The health walk not only promoted physical well-being but also emphasized the importance of staying active and nurturing our bodies. Participants from various youth groups, including Camfed, SheLeads, Ghana Scout, Junior High Students, and dedicated volunteers of the Ghana Red Cross, came together for this refreshing activity.

As the sun set on the evening of the 11th of May 2024, sports enthusiasts gathered to witness a thrilling football match between the Ghana Red Cross team and the Ghana Scout team of the Upper West Region. In a display of sportsmanship and unity, the Ghana Red Cross emerged victorious with a score of 3 goals to 2, showcasing teamwork and unity between the two teams.

Under the theme “I give with Joy, and the Joy I give is a reward,” this year’s World Red Cross Day celebration in the Upper West Region exemplified the spirit of generosity, compassion, and unity that defines the Red Cross movement, leaving a positive impact on all those involved and reaffirming the importance of humanitarian efforts in building a more resilient and caring community.
