Kuurimah Foundation Launched Peace Campaign In Wa West District

Today,July 24th, 2024, Kuurimah Ibrahim Umuhera, Executive Director of Kuurimah Foundation, launched a Peace Campaign Durbar in the Wa West District, marking a significant step towards fostering harmony in the district.

As a Peace Ambassador for the 2024 elections, Kuurimah Ibrahim Umuhera initiated her campaign for peaceful elections in her hometown of Wa West. The event gathered community leaders, including chiefs, traditional authorities, political representatives, market women, and youth from Dorimon, who came together at the Dorimon D/A School park. The day was highlighted by a friendly football match between the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, adding a spirit of camaraderie to the occasion.

Addressing the audience, Kuurimah emphasized the importance of peace amidst the upcoming general election, steering away from political discourse to focus squarely on the enduring need for peace in the district. She lamented the long-standing challenges of chieftaincy and land disputes that have plagued the community, impeding its development and unity over the years.

“We gather here today at a critical moment in our nation’s history, just months away from the 2024 general election. But I’m not here to talk about politics; I’m here to talk about peace. Peace that has eluded our district for far too long.

For years, chieftaincy and land disputes have plagued our community, hindering development and progress. We’ve seen division, tension, and conflict. But I ask you, what has conflict brought us? Has it brought us prosperity? Has it brought us unity? No!

Conflict only leads to suffering, displacement, and underdevelopment. Our children deserve better. Our women deserve better. Our community deserves better.”

Kuurimah called upon political leaders to prioritize peace over personal ambitions, urging them to engage in sincere dialogue and actively seek resolution for community disputes. She recognized the pivotal role of chiefs and traditional authorities in promoting reconciliation and appealed to market women and youth to advocate tirelessly for peace and progress.

“We need leaders who will prioritize peace over political gain. Leaders who will engage in genuine dialogue, who will listen to our concerns, and who will work tirelessly to resolve our disputes.

To our chiefs and traditional authorities, I urge you to continue playing your vital role in promoting peace and reconciliation. Your wisdom and influence are crucial in resolving our disputes.

To our market women, I see your strength and resilience every day. You are the backbone of our community, and I urge you to continue advocating for peace.

And to our young people, I say, do not inherit our conflicts. You have the power to create a better future. Demand peace from your leaders. Demand development. Demand a better life.”

In her address, She underscored the collective responsibility to build a peaceful and prosperous Wa West District where every resident has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. She challenged the community to rise above present difficulties, acknowledging economic hardships, unemployment, and poverty, which have diverted attention from critical issues such as peace and unity.

“The economy is struggling, our youth are unemployed, and our people are suffering.  I must acknowledge the harsh reality of our current situation. Our country is facing numerous challenges: economic hardship, unemployment, and poverty. Yet, in the midst of these struggles, our politicians are more focused on winning elections in 2024 than on promoting peace and unity. We’ve lost our way, and it’s time to come together to find our path again. We’ve been divided for far too long, and it’s time to put aside our differences and unite for the sake of our nation. Peace is not just a word; it’s a choice. It’s a choice to put our country above our individual interests. It’s a choice to work together to build a Ghana where every citizen can thrive. Let us remember the struggles of our past and the sacrifices made by our ancestors. Let us honor their memory by working towards a future where every Ghanaian can live in peace and prosperity.                                                                                                                                                                       We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to put our differences aside and work towards a common goal. Let us choose peace, let us choose unity, and let us choose a brighter future for all.”

Closing her remarks, Kuurimah rallied the community to choose peace and unity over division and strife, pledging to work together towards a brighter future for all Ghanaians. She emphasized the importance of honoring past struggles and sacrifices by embracing a future where peace and prosperity prevail.

“Let us not be swayed by divisive rhetoric or manipulated by those who seek power over people. Let us choose peace, let us choose unity, and let us choose a better future for all Ghanaians.

We can make a difference. We can be the change we seek. Let us come together, let us stand for peace, and let us build a Ghana where every citizen can thrive.”

The Peace Campaign Durbar organized by Kuurimah Foundation stands as a pivotal moment in the Wa West District’s journey towards reconciliation and progress. It serves as a reminder that despite challenges, unity and peace remain achievable goals through collective effort and unwavering commitment to the common good.
