PERSONAL LIFE
Yakubu Issah (born on 30th January,1989) with the stage name Ataaka is a Ghanaian Hip Hop artiste based in Northern part of Ghana. He happens to be a proud indigene of Tamale, Kukuo to be specific. Growing up in a home where local music was always played, he developed passion for the endeavor. He’s a young man with swimming and readiong as hobbies. He also happens to be a soccer fanatic. The delicacy, Fried Rice keeps him moving each day.
EARLY LIFE IN MUSIC
As a young man, his passion for music developed from home and later triggered holistically upon listening to then top artistes such as Lord Kenya, Obrafour, Okomfo Kwaadee and KKC. As at primary school, he could mime to the songs of the aforementioned artistes.Consequently, he later began to write lyrics of his own which won many hearts. As an underground artiste, he started as a partner to another upcoming where they were known as “Nonsi” to wit scorpions indicating how poisonous they’re. As a member of the group, songs like “kpibga” and “Nyura” were released. Both of them were being mentored by George Cliff of KKC. He later went solo to release a track titled “Alima” which was a mixtape. As a student cum musician at senior high school, he led Savelugu Senior High School to represent Northern Ghana at the National Coca- Cola Single Hit Competition in Accra which featured schools like Adisadel College (Central), Accra Academy (Accra), T.I Amass(Kumasi), St. Peter’s Boys (Takoradi), Koforidua SecTech (Koforidua), St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary (Accra), Aggrey Memorial School (Cape Coast) where he emerged as 2nd Runner-Up under the tutelage of Samini.
Educational Background
Ataaka had his kindergarten and primary education at St. Peter’s Primary School and later moved to Tishegu Anglican for his junior high education, all in Tamale. He gained admission into Savelugu Senior High to offer business where he served as Entertainment prefect and completed in 2012. As a lover and passionate of education, he applied and as well got admitted into Tamale Technical University to read HND Accountancy. He graduated in 2017 with second class upper honors.
Music Career
The Chief Executive Officer for Taaka Music, Ataaka, was discovered by Abubakari Naporo (DJ Parara) after a magnanimous performance by the act during a show at picorna Gardens. A lot of music lovers were thrilled by his demeanor and posture with the rap terrain hence compelling Parara to nurse his talent. Mr Hayford (a nurse then at West Hospital) joined Parara in the management of Ataaka leading to the release of his debut single titled “Kisim-ma”, produced by Peejay which featured Mak- Dee of Dons Clan Fam. This particular song received massive airplay on all radio stations in Northern Ghana.
After a couple of months under Mr. Hayford, there was the need to move another pace hence the uproar of Next Level Records owned by A Ghanaian Belgium based footballer called Yakin.The label signed Ataaka in.collaboration with Parara entertainment. The label made it possible for him to have a song tilted “Batoro” with the African iron lady, Sherifatu Gunu with a classic video. He later got signed to Odo Lati records, Kukuo last stop and currently managed by HASFUS GROUP OF COMPANIES. He has four (4) albums to his credit, namely, Baatoro, An-yo, My wife and Ginger. Ataaka has recorded songs with renowned artistes such as Ruff n Smooth, Sherifatu Gunu, Fancy Gadam, Abu Sadick, Rocky Mogli, Eduwordzie and many more.
At the area of performances, he’s enjoyed same stages with top African acts such as Wizkid, Davido, Samini, Sarkodie, R2BEES, Shatta Wale, Selebobo and many others. Hits to the credit of Ataaka include; My wife, Al-kibra, Soccer Fans, Batoro, Caesar, Ginger, Samira, Pini, Economy, Sakasaka cell among others. As a key of his brand, he’s taken up to record yearly happenings within the northern music industry dubbed “Review” which commenced in 2015. Tizoora, nyaaga, Wantonchini, t-,poly dokono, nkitinkiti are mantra mostly used by this act to be easily identified.
Ataaka has won several awards. He’s the pioneer receiver of the Best Rap Act during the maiden edition of Northern Music Awards in 2015. In addition, he’s won Hip Hop song of the year consecutively in 2015 and 2016. Ataaka believes he’s yet to do more for the music fraternity in Ghana and beyond.
