Shatta Bandle Finds Himself In Hot Water In Nigeria For Spraying Naira Notes

Ghanaian social media sensation Firdaus Iddrisu, popularly known as Shatta Bandle, has issued a public apology following a controversial incident where he was seen spraying Naira notes at an event in Lagos.

The incident occurred during his recent trip to Nigeria for the funeral of the famous actor Mr. Ibu on June 28. A viral video captured Shatta Bandle generously spraying Naira notes, an act that quickly drew the attention of the Nigerian public and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Nigeria maintains strict regulations against the abuse of its currency, and Shatta Bandle’s actions have become a focal point due to these laws. Earlier this year, Nigerian celebrity Bobrisky faced similar scrutiny and was arrested by the EFCC for spraying cash at a movie premiere, charged with currency mutilation and abuse.

In his apology, Shatta Bandle expressed deep remorse, explaining that his actions were not intended to disrespect Nigerian laws. He clarified that he initially started spraying dollars but switched to Naira when the dollars ran out. “I respect the EFCC and Nigerian laws. Nigeria is my second home. I apologize to everyone, especially the EFCC, for what I have done,” he stated.

The Naira mutilation law stipulates that anyone convicted of abusing the currency or tampering with coins or notes faces a minimum imprisonment of six months or a fine of at least N50,000 (approximately US$37), or both.

Shatta Bandle’s apology aims to smooth over the incident, emphasizing his respect for Nigeria and its regulations.
