Khebab Chef Atinga Loses Guinness World Records for Longest Barbecue Marathon Attempt; Announces New Annual Festival

The much-anticipated Khebab-A-Thon event, held at the Legon City Mall in April 2024, ended on a disappointing note for Chef Atinga and his team. Despite meticulous preparation and strong support from sponsors, partners, and media, the attempt to break the record for the longest barbecue marathon was disqualified due to a scheduling mishap.

The disqualification came during the 17th rest break, where, according to the event’s record manager, Chef Atinga’s team took additional minutes that had not been accumulated through the challenge. The rules are strict: no extra time for rest can be taken unless it is earned during the attempt, leading to the unfortunate disqualification of what could have been a historic feat.

Though the team fell short of securing the coveted record, Chef Atinga has already set his sights on the future. He announced his plans to lead Ghana’s first annual Khebab Festival, debuting in May 2025, which promises to celebrate the country’s rich culinary heritage and khebab-making tradition.

With continued support from partners like God’s Time Is The Best Khebab, Acera Brewery, and OneDuniya Ventures, among others, Chef Atinga and his team remain committed to learning from this setback and ensuring future events are a success.

The Khebab-A-Thon may have ended in disappointment, but the journey continues for Chef Atinga and his growing community of supporters.
