JUST IN: Halik Musah Resigns from Radio Tamale
Tamale, Ghana – Halik Musah, popularly known as DJ TEL, has officially resigned from his position as the drive time presenter at Radio Tamale. In a resignation letter addressed to the station’s General Manager, Musah cited recent incidents and political interference as the primary reasons for his departure, effective immediately.
The decision comes in the wake of Musah’s suspension from Radio Tamale, following his criticism of former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on his radio program. This commentary, which Musah maintains was rooted in objective journalism and freedom of speech, led to an attack on him by NDC thugs, resulting in significant damage to his car. The assault occurred just before his suspension, an event that Musah describes as a direct consequence of his outspoken views.
In his resignation letter, Musah expressed his dismay at the stifling of free speech and the evident political pressure that has compromised the integrity of the station. “While I understand the need for impartiality and professionalism in broadcasting, I cannot in good conscience stand by while political interference stifles free speech and honest dialogue,” Musah wrote.
Musah further emphasized that his values and principles no longer align with those of Radio Tamale, making it impossible for him to continue in his role. Despite the unfortunate circumstances leading to his resignation, Musah expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences he had at the station, acknowledging the relationships he has built with his colleagues and listeners.
