In a heartfelt decision, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has formally announced its withdrawal from the upcoming December 7, 2024, Parliamentary and Presidential elections. This move follows the recent passing of their founder and presidential candidate, Madam Akua Donkor. The party’s National Executive Committee, in close consultation with her family, determined that stepping back from this election would honor her legacy and the dedication she brought to the political landscape.
In a statement addressed to the Electoral Commission, GFP’s National Organizer Richard Botchway expressed both regret for any inconvenience caused to the commission’s schedule and readiness to rejoin future electoral contests. Botchway emphasized the importance of honoring Madam Donkor’s commitment to her party, with her candidacy symbolically “sent to the grave” alongside her.
The Ghana Freedom Party remains committed to its mission of “Love and Unity” and looks forward to future opportunities to serve the people of Ghana under its late founder’s vision.
