Ghana Freedom Party Leader Akua Donkor Reported Dead
Akua Donkor, founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra. Her family confirmed the news on Tuesday, October 29, noting she passed on Monday, October 28.
Known for her vibrant personality and unwavering commitment to farmers’ and women’s rights, Akua Donkor was a unique voice in Ghanaian politics. Through her leadership of the GFP, she became well-known for advocating grassroots issues and standing for the presidency several times despite limited resources.
Her first attempt at the presidency was in 2012, though she was disqualified due to eligibility requirements. Rather than contest the decision, she endorsed PPP candidate Papa Kwesi Nduom. In 2016, she faced another setback when her party headquarters in Kabu was destroyed by fire, which led to her disqualification from the election that year.
Akua Donkor’s determination and dedication have left a lasting mark on Ghana’s political landscape, and her passing signals the end of a distinctive chapter in the country’s political history.
